CROSSROADS FESTIVAL OF CHAMBER MUSIC 2023
Crossroads Chamber Music Festival | 6-8 October

We are very glad to be able to present this concert now that Festival Director Madeleine Easton is fully recovered from Covid.

The 2023 Crossroads Chamber Music Festival is held in Gosford, NSW Central Coast on October 6 - 8th, presented with Central Coast Conservatorium of Music.

Bringing together local and international chamber musicians for a weekend of performances, this year’s festival will feature an exciting program of five concerts featuring one of Australia’s foremost concert pianists Phillip Shovk, violinist and Bach Akademie founder Madeleine Easton, the Phoenix Collective Quartet and Central Coast’s Concertante Ensemble string quintet.

SUNDAY 8th OCTOBER
CONCERT 3: THE CONCERTANTE ENSEMBLE QUINTET

2pm at Gosford Anglican Church, 7 Mann Street Gosford

Concertante Ensemble will have the pleasure of closing the Crossroads Chamber Festival. Concertante Ensemble's first piece, Mozart's two viola string quintet, K516 in G minor, is widely considered his crowning achievement in chamber music writing. Tchaikovsky wrote of this quintet, "No one else has ever known how to interpret so beautifully and exquisitely in music the feeling of resignation and inconsolable sorrow....I had to hide in the farthest corner of the concert-room so that others would not see how much this music affected me."

The second piece that will be presented is Brahms' string quintet op. 111 in G major. This work is a personal favourite of Concertante Ensemble, exploring rich textures, mysterious variations and wild frolicking Hungarian folk dances. Brahms was pleased with his quintet, describing it to Clara Schumann as "one of my finest works" and telling his publisher Simrock, "You have never before had such a beautiful work from me."

We welcome the Conservatorium Saturday Strings Junior and Senior string orchestras, who will be presenting two short works to introduce the second half of the program.
